The Anna and John J. Sie Center for Down Syndrome at Children’s Hospital Colorado was founded in direct response to Anna Sie’s desire to provide the best medical and developmental care as well as to create programs for children with Down syndrome. The Sie Center is a center of excellence with Down syndrome experts and subspecialists at Children's Colorado providing comprehensive medical and developmental specialty care as well as conducting clinical research.

Why choose the Sie Center at Children's Hospital Colorado?

The Sie Center provides expert medical and therapeutic intervention for children with Down syndrome in Colorado and surrounding states. It is one of the largest comprehensive teams caring for children with Down syndrome, located at our nationally ranked children's hospital as rated by U.S. News & World Report. Together with the Linda Crnic Institute, the Sie Center helps advance the total care of children with Down syndrome by providing excellent medical care, therapy, research and advocacy.

What makes the Sie Center unique?

Our team of providers has more than 80 years of combined experience in caring for children with Down syndrome and developmental disabilities.

At Children’s Colorado, we collaborate with many of the most premier pediatric sub-specialists in the country to improve the care of children with Down syndrome and develop state-of-the-art clinical research. In addition, we’re working toward becoming a leading translational research program for children with Down syndrome. That means the Sie Center will take cutting-edge discoveries straight from our research lab and use them to help patients in the clinical setting.

Who we treat at the Sie Center

Our services include evaluation, consultation and therapies for infants, children, teens and young adults with Down syndrome. We see patients prenatally up to age 25 (patients must be seen in the Sie Center prior to age 21 to be followed until age 25). By coordinating our care with other clinics at Children's Colorado, we have an entire team of pediatric specialists working together to provide the best possible care for your child.

What to expect during your first visit

The Sie Center for Down Syndrome provides the highest quality comprehensive consultation by coordinating medical care, along with therapies including speech, physical and occupational therapy. Our team also includes feeding therapists, a psychologist and a child education specialist.

Before your first appointment, we will contact you to review your child’s and family’s needs. We will have a multidisciplinary team ready to meet you and your child during your first visit to address your child’s specific needs.

At the end of the visit, your family will receive appropriate and up-to-date information, as well as resources and recommendations to optimize your child’s health and development. We will also share this information with your child’s primary care doctor.

Lastly, we will arrange periodic follow-up appointments based on your child’s needs, parental concerns and primary care physician’s recommendations. To help make your visit to Children’s Colorado as convenient as possible, the hospital complex schedulers can try to schedule combination appointments with other subspecialists on the same day or over a period of a few days.

History of the Sie Center

The Anna and John J. Sie Center for Down Syndrome at Children's Colorado was established thanks to a generous gift from the Anna and John J. Sie Foundation. The clinic officially opened its doors in November 2010 as part of the Linda Crnic Institute for Down Syndrome at the University of Colorado School of Medicine.

Anna and John J. Sie were inspired by the birth of their granddaughter, who has Down syndrome, to found the Anna and John J. Sie Center for Down Syndrome at Children’s Colorado. The Sie Center was founded with the insight and cooperation of the leaders of Children's Colorado and the Children's Hospital Colorado Foundation. The family’s mission is to improve outcomes for all individuals with Down syndrome.
