Riding for Recovery: Winter Burn Camp Helps Teens

Teenagers from across the country came together for four days in Steamboat Springs to ski, snowboard and make friends with other teens who have endured burn injuries.

Normalizing burn injuries and finding comfort among friends

Children's Hospital Colorado Winter Burn Camp hosted 25 teens aged 15-18 from across the country at Steamboat Ski Area. Local instructors donated their time to be a part of the program, which helps the youth find friendship with others who have endured similar trauma.

“You might assume some burns are more like breaking your arm — that it heals and you're done,” said Trudy Boulter, Burn Camp Director, OTH, CHT. “That’s not the case with kids who sustain burn injuries. It’s a very hard thing to get through.
