Kids’ Play Areas on the Anschutz Medical Campus

At Children's Hospital Colorado, we know it is important to accommodate the family's needs as well as the patient's. Often, a sibling may come along for an appointment and need to be entertained, or parents may need a place to sit and take a grown-up time out. For those reasons and many more, we've built kids' play areas around our hospital on Anschutz Medical Campus.

Creative Play Center for siblings

The Creative Play Center is located on the first floor of our hospital in Aurora, just off the west end of the Fresh Marketplace. The center offers a safe, fun play environment for the siblings of patients of Children’s Hospital Colorado. The center is available on a first-come, first-served basis for children up to 17 years old. Our specially trained team offers a safe play area for siblings while you tend to the needs of your child who is at the hospital for treatment.

There is also a playground connected to the Creative Play Center. It's available when the Creative Play Center is open, weather permitting.

Children's play areas

Child play areas are located on each floor of our hospital on Anschutz Medical Campus. Designed to meet the needs of children from infants to young adults, these play areas provide kids an opportunity to engage in everyday activities. A "safe zone" free from medical procedures and treatments, play rooms help ease the stress of being in a hospital environment.

Child play rooms are staffed by volunteers who provide support and a needed distraction. These volunteers also visit patient rooms for children restricted to their rooms.

Additional play areas are located throughout the hospital, including a play area inside the Ponzio Surgery Center which helps kids and their families relax prior to surgery. Similar rooms are also located in intensive care areas.

Gardens, outdoor spaces and playgrounds

Sometimes kids just need to get outside and move around, which is why we have several outdoor areas to grab a breath of fresh air during your stay.

There is an outdoor eating area just outside The Fresh Marketplace cafeteria with plenty of room for kids to run free. The Garden of Hope, complete with a walking maze, is located between the Emergency Department entrance and cafeteria entrance on the south side of the hospital.

There is a playground for kids to enjoy, located by the cafeteria's outdoor eating area on the south side of the hospital. There is also a family courtyard located outside the cardiology waiting area on the third floor.
